Springport Joins Midwest Energy & Communications (MEC)

After 100 years of serving our friends and neighbors, it’s time for a new adventure. Springport is becoming part of Midwest Energy & Communications (MEC), a local electric, fiber internet, and phone cooperative headquartered in Cassopolis, MI.

Like us, MEC has deep roots in rural Michigan and a long history of serving local communities. Today, they support roughly 50,000 customers across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.

We’re working closely together to finalize details and will share updates soon.

What this means for you

  • Your current service and support will continue as usual during the transition. So for now, you can keep using and paying for your service as normal.
  • Once the sale is complete, you’ll be an MEC customer. Your service, equipment, and support will not change right away. However, MEC is building a new fiber network in your area, and eventually, you will be upgraded to their network. They will keep you informed every step of the way.
  • MEC will keep you informed throughout the process and will share updates about timing, billing, account setup, and their fiber construction as details are finalized

Timing

We don’t have a confirmed date yet because we are still working with regulators. However, we expect everything to be finalized in the coming weeks.

  • Every Monday & Tuesday in June, 9:30 am–4:00 pm
  • Saturday, June 6, 10 am–2 pm
  • Wednesday, June 17, 2 pm–7 pm
  • Saturday, June 20, 10 am–2 pm
  • Plus: Springport Summer Festival on June 13

Get Started with MEC

MEC would love to help you set up your online account on MEC’s bill payment and account management portal, SmartHub. To get started, please fill out this brief form.

Once submitted, you will receive an email from SmartHub (teammidwest-no-reply@smarthub.coop) with instructions for how to register. If you would like MEC to call you to help you set up your account, please indicate that on the form, and they’ll be happy to reach out.
